Dr. Bess has built his reputation on the exceptional technical quality of his work and the genuine, heart-felt interaction he has with his patients. Dr. Bess attended undergraduate school at Texas Lutheran University from 1991 to 1994. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. He began dental school in San Antonio in 1995 and was awarded his Doctorate Degree in Dentistry at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, which at the time, had the highest ranking among dental schools in the United States.
While in dental school, Dr. Bess was accepted in to the Junior Commissioned Officer Student Training and Extern Program. Part of his training was performing surgical dental services at The Federal Correctional Institution in Sheridan, Oregon. While there he performed basic dental procedures including extractions, fillings and root canals.
Following graduation from dental school in 1999, Dr. Bess completed General Practice Residency at the Dallas Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Through the residency, Dr. Bess received training in all aspects of dental care. From cosmetic procedures like veneers or cosmetic periodontal surgeries and implant dentistry to rotations in geriatrics, hospital dentistry, anesthesia and advanced cardiac life support, this type of residency is completed by fewer than 10% of the practicing dentists in the United States. This invaluable training continues to benefit the quality of care that Dr. Bess offers each and every day.
Dr. Bess has been practicing in Plano since 2000 and has completed over 800 hours of advanced, post-graduate training in order to stay abreast of the latest technology and cutting-edge treatment. In 2011, he earned the Fellowship designation from the esteemed Academy of General Dentistry. This advanced education designation is held by less than 10% of dentists nationwide and is awarded upon successful completion of a rigorous curriculum and examination over the course of several years.
Dr. Bess has also completed training and is now a teaching faculty member at the prestigious Center for Advanced Restorative Dentistry. The Center for Aesthetic Restorative Dentistry is the premiere hands-on learning facility for dentists wishing to become virtual experts in restorative and complex dentistry. At the Center for Aesthetic Restorative Dentistry, dentists master the highest level of technical aesthetic restorative dentistry skills that are utilized in transforming their practice into a comprehensive treatment center.
He is an active member of the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the Texas Dental Association, the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, and the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine. In addition, through his various professional affiliations, Dr. Bess has had the opportunity to study, train and teach with literally some of the finest dentists in clinical practice today. Dr. Bess has additional training in dental digital imaging and routinely performs a complimentary dietary analysis to see if diet and/or lifestyle could be contributing to dental or systemic disease.
Dr. Bess has a special interest in nutrition and chronic disease prevention and continually explores alternative approaches to improving the overall wellness and quality of the lives of the patients he serves. Dr. Bess has long-term goals of becoming a real wellness resource for patients wanting to take control of their health and live a healthy life to the fullest.
In his spare time, Dr. Bess enjoys spending time with his son, Jack. He also enjoys reading, playing soccer, and training in mixed martial arts.
